Two new health care centres in Akureyri are planned

Due to the news in recent days, HSN and the Ministry of Health wish to reaffirm that the aim is to open two new healthcare centres in Akureyri.

Sunnuhlid

The Sunnuhlíð clinic will be ready at the end of the year, and the aim is for most of HSN's clinical services in Akureyri to move there in January, and the clinic in Hafnarstræti will be closed at the same time. In addition to work facilities in Sunnuhlíð, HSN rents temporary housing for home nursing in Skarðshlíð and psychosocial services and support services at Hvannavellir 14.

Contracts are being worked on for the construction of another health center at Þórunnarstræti on a so-called camp field. The aim is to open the healthcare center in 2026. Interest in a more diverse form of operation in healthcare services in North Iceland has been revealed. The Healthcare Institution of North Iceland and the Ministry of Health will jointly analyze whether it is reasonable for the institute to operate both centers or whether the operation of one of them will be put out to tender.
