Respiratory tract infections. Week 49 of 2023
A recent review of the frequency of respiratory infections and hospitalizations this winter compares Iceland to the situation in Europe.
The number of COVID-19 diagnoses is stable, but the number of influenza diagnoses appears to rise. The number of diagnoses of RSV infection is also on the rise. The number of individuals admitted to Landspítali University Hospital with respiratory virus infection increased in early November, and the weekly number has been relatively stable since. Most people who are hospitalized have COVID-19 and of those, most were in the age group 65 years and older. Children aged two and younger are the majority of those who have been admitted to Landspítali with a diagnosis of RSV this winter.
The new report (Icelandic) gives a closer overview of the incidence of respiratory diseases in week 49 of 2023.
