Iceland ranks # 4 in Digital in Europe

Iceland lands 4th place in eGovernment Benchmark 2022 and continues to climb the list, following Malta, Estonia, and Luxemburg.

This success results from the Icelandic Government's emphasis on digital public service through policy changes to become global leaders in digital. Through digital, Iceland aims to increase its competitiveness, provide better public service, improve infrastructure safety, and have a more modern work environment.

Improved services for children

Guardians can now see their childrens My Pages on Ísland.is by changing users. Guardians have access to My Page of their children until the age of 18 and until the age of 16 to a digital mailbox. With this change, all guardians can see their children regardless of their family number.

Personal declaration of No-dept digital!

A certificate of No-dept for individuals can now be obtained digitally from Ísland.is. A digital debt relief certificate is also being prepared for companies and is expected this autumn.

Users select self-service!

With a new service website and chatbox, the number of weekly queries to Ísland.is has declined by 35%. This means that the number of calls and e-mails declined by more than 500 in June. Users seem to like the extra service that allows people to quickly resolve their queries themselves!


Amongst the projects in digital Iceland these days are:

  • Your passport - publishing information on My pages in Ísland.is and in the Ísland.is app

  • Digital passport application

  • Electronic registration of real estate deeds

  • Electronic registration of real estate purchase contracts

  • The website of the Directorate of Immigration, Ísland.is

  • Electronic submission of annual financial statements to the National Audit Office

  • A two-year roadmap for digital services of local Governments in Ísland.is

  • Financial assistance from the Icelandic Municipalities.

  • ADR and machine rights published in Ísland.is and My pages in Ísland.is
