Better services with improved access and clearer instructions.

The Directorate of Immigration has moved its website to Ísland.is in collaboration with Digital Iceland. The Directorate's website is thereby accessible through the gateway to all of Iceland's public services. The content of the website was reviewed based on the needs of users and partly rewritten on this occasion. The overall objective of these changes is to improve services for users of the website who are primarily applicants for residence permits, visas, and Icelandic citizenship.

Kristín Völundardóttir, Director General of the Directorate of Immigration:

The new website of the Directorate of Immigration under the auspices of island.is is yet another step that the Directorate takes in improving its services. The collaboration with Digital Iceland has been successful but is not yet completed; our next project is the introduction of a chatbot on our website. The Directorate has also launched digital applications for Icelandic citizenship and renewal of residence permits in cooperation with Digital Iceland, and more digital applications are being prepared.

Andri Heiðar Kristinsson, CEO of Digital Iceland:

The Directorate of Immigration brings great strength for Ísland.is, which will ensure better information and service for a diverse group. The cooperation has been really good and we look forward to supporting them in further digital development.

The new website also offers an online chat. The chat was launched in early April on a special information website for people fleeing from Ukraine. Now the chat answers questions relating to all the services of the Directorate of Immigration. The online chat is open on weekdays between 10:00 and 14:00. Outside this time, it is possible to send in requests through the chat, which will be answered by e-mail.
