Application opened for purchase of residential property in Grindavík
An application for the purchase of residential properties in Grindavík has been opened for individuals.
Residents of Grindavík who wish to sell their residential property to the Treasury through the Þórkatla Real Estate Company, according to newly approved legislation passed by the Icelandic parliament, can now fill out an application on Ísland.is.
It is assumed that the processing of applications will take about 2-4 weeks, subject to the number of applications and the complexity of their processing, which can be expected to vary according to the properties. Owners of about 900 apartments in Grindavík can use the resource if they want.
More time will be given to apply for the sale of residential property, or until the end of the year. The Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs has also signed an agreement with the main lenders of mortgages in Grindavík on the acquisition of the outstanding loans on the housing that will be purchased by the residents of Grindavík and their refinancing in accordance with the agreement.
This is a major milestone and it is a great joy that the law on the purchase of the residents’ homes has been implemented. The intention was always to enable the residents of Grindavík to decide their own destiny and the opening of the application process is a major milestone in that.
