New director of Health Insurance

Sigurður H. Helgason has taken over the position of CEO of Icelandic Health Insurance as of February 1.

Sigurður Helgi

Sigurður holds a Master's degree in administration from Roskilde Universitet, with specialisation in health economics and health services administration. He has headed the office of management and reform at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs since 2013, as well as being a deputy head of the Ministry. Previously, he has served as assistant manager of the Nordic Council of Ministers in Copenhagen, where he was Head of Finance and Administration, Professional Director of Public Operations Reform at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, and a Ministry of Finance Specialist. He then for many years managed the consultancy firm Governance.

In connection with his work, he has worked on multiple projects in the field of health. Among other things, he took an active part in the preparation of amendments that led to the health insurance act and the Icelandic Health Insurance Administration in 2008. He is also on the board of the New Landspítali ohf., which is responsible for the development of the new infrastructure at Landspítali.
