1,000,000 processed applications

This milestone was reached in September, when just over 52,500 applications went through the system—from a total of 153 public entities that have implemented the system to streamline their processes and improve oversight. 

The Application System replaces countless manual steps by staff who previously had to handle data across different systems and even enter information by hand in multiple places in order to provide the relevant service. 

It is likely that the millionth application was for the European Health Insurance Card from Iceland Health, which is typically the service most frequently applied for through the system each month. 

Top applications in September 

At present, about 340 application processes are available on Ísland.is, and the number is growing rapidly. Examples of application types already implemented in the Application System include the issuance of certificates, permit requests, changes to registrations, payments for various services, and grant applications.
