Application for public road registration of a work machine

Work machines intended for driving on public roads must be registered in the vehicle register. You can register a work machine for public road at the same time as a new registration.

You will then receive a registration badge for identification, which you must have visible on the device.

The following categories can be registered:

  • EA – Excavators on wheels with 360 ° rotation, own weight > 4 tons

  • EH – Excavators on wheels (tractor excavators), own weight > 4 tons

  • FH – Loader shovels on wheels (wheel loaders), own weight > 4 tons

  • HV – Graders, own weight > 4 tons

  • IA – Towing vehicles, motor > 15 kW *

  • IB – Sweepers, snow plows and blowers, motorized wheelbarrows, etc., motor > 15 kW

  • IM – Excavators and shovels, own weight ≤ 4 tons

  • JF – Forklifts with telescopic boom, lifting capacity ≥ 1.2 tons but ≤ 10 tons compared to 0.6 m load center

  • JL – Forklifts, lifting capacity ≥ 1.2 tons but ≤ 10 tons compared to 0.6 m load center *

  • KG – Forklifts, lifting capacity ≥ 10 tons *

  • KL – Forklifts with telescopic boom, lifting capacity > 10 tons

*Equipment in categories IA, IF, JL and KG usually do not meet the requirements for the type and equipment of vehicles and must be separately applied for their public road registration by contacting the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health customer service.

Registration badges are mailed to you within three business days.

The fee for registering work machines for driving on public roads is:

  • Traffic safety fee

  • Registration mark on a work machine

  • Public road registration - new registration

  • Public road registration - electronic pre-registration

The fee for registering work machines for driving on public roads is determined according to the tariff of the Icelandic Transport Authority and collected by the Finance Ministry.
