Permission to become a daycare parent in a private home

Day parents operating licence application

Daycare in private homes is carried out between 7:00 and 19:00 on weekdays. In exceptional cases, daycare may take place in residential premises specifically leased for providing daycare if:

  • the living conditions are no less favourable than private households

  • the premises are suitable for daycare

If two childminders intend to work together, each of them must apply to GEV for a licence.

Application process

  1. Applicants apply for a licence to GEV.

  2. GEV checks to see if necessary information and data is submitted with the application.

  3. GEV sends a request for comment to the social services of the applicants municipality.

  4. Social services provide a statement to GEV.

  5. GEV decides on the issue of a licence and informs the applicant.

Supporting documents with application

  • Consent for the obtaining of criminal records from all household members over the age of 15. The form must be printed and filled in.

  • A medical certificate from a general practitioner certifying the applicant's state of health

  • Confirmation of attendance at a course for childminders or certification of education in the field of childcare (if new application)

Processing of the application

Once all the data and information is available, GEV can may make a final assessment of the application and decide whether to issue a licence.
