Driving instructor's general rights training

Driving instructors' studies shall be conducted with the programme in accordance with a curriculum guide set by the Icelandic Transportation Authority and approved by the Minister of Infrastructure. The curriculum is prepared in consultation with the Icelandic Driver Training Association and the University of Iceland School of Education.

Preliminary requirements

• Have reached the age of 21.

• Matriculation examination or equivalent education

• Have driven a car on a regular basis for the last three years.

• Have not been sentenced in accordance with the provisions of Paragraph 2, Article 68 of the Penal Code.

• Meeting the physical and mental fitness requirements for drivers in Group 2, cf. Regulation No. 830/201.

Licences of driving instructors

An application for a licence to practice is made to the District Commissioner´s office. The licence of a driving instructor is indicated by a special national code in column 12 on the driving licence of the applicant.
