Old driving licenses

The oldest driving licences (green and pink) are marked with a stamp at the driving licence categories. The period of validity of the licence is indicated on the front of the licence and the first date of issue of the category of rights on the reverse. It is necessary to renew the driving licence as soon as possible after its expiry. Driving licences valid on 1 March 1988, which only had classes A or B in force, but not C, D or E, shall retain their validity in all other respects until the owner reaches the age of seventy. A regulation on driving licences, which entered into force on 15 August 1997, introduced a definition of categories of driving licences in line with classification in use within the European Economic Area. Card certificates were introduced.
