The appointment of the board of directors

The Minister appoints five members to the board of Iceland Health, one of whom shall be appointed chairman of the board and another vice chairman. An equal number of alternates shall be appointed. The chair of the board calls board meetings and chairs them, and the director attends board meetings with the right to speak and make proposals. The Minister shall issue a letter of appointment to the Board of Directors and determine remuneration to Directors, which shall be paid from the operating budget of the Institute.

The Board of Directors of Iceland Health shall approve the organizational structure, annual work programme and budget and establish a long-term policy for the Agency. The board shall supervise the operations of the Institute and ensure that its operations are within the framework of the national budget at any given time.

The chairman of the board of Iceland Health shall regularly inform the Minister of its activities and notify him if its activities and services are not in accordance with the provisions of law and if its operations are not in accordance with the national budget.
