Licences for light aircraft

Light aircraft certificate

In order to be issued a light aircraft licence (LAPL), theoretical and practical studies must be completed at an aeronautical school authorised to train students on light aircraft

LAPL for aeroplanes or sailplanes is an option for those interested only in privately operated small aeroplanes, and an option for those not eligible for a Class 2 medical certificate ( Less stringent requirements for LAPL issue).

LAPL licence

  • does not fully comply with ICAO requirements.

  • not valid outside Europe

  • For helicopters and aeroplanes, the privileges are limited to aircraft below 2000 kg.

  • be limited to a maximum of three passengers (four on board with pilot).

The requirements for the issue of LAPLs for helicopters and aeroplanes are mostly the same as for PPLs in the same category of aircraft, except that the practical scope of the training is shorter.
