Collect Travel Gift

All individuals legal residence of Iceland, born in 2003 or earlier, are eligible for a Travel Gift in the amount of ISK 5000. The Travel Gift is made available in the form of a voucher number and barcode, which may be scanned or read allowed when paying at participating
service providers.

The Travel Gift program is a part of a larger effort to support the Icelandic travel industry through the coronavirus global pandemic. The Travel Gift is valid from its date of issue through September 30th, 2021.

When applying for a travel gift, it is verified that the you are at least 18 years old, have an Icelandic SSN and Icelandic legal domicile. If that applies the travel gift is linked to your phone number. Processors have access to this information to ensure that only rightholders can take advantage of the travel gift.

How do I claim my Travel Gift?

The best way to manage your Travel Gift is with the Ferðagjöf app.

If you don’t have a smartphone, you can access your Travel Gift by logging into Island.is. It’s best not to print out the voucher barcode and number, as each voucher is valid for 15 minutes only.

Access the Ferðagjöf smartphone app:

  • iPhone users can download the app from the App Store

  • Android users can download the app from the Play Store

  • Follow the instructions in the app to log in

You still need to claim your Travel Gift here on Island.is, after which it will appear in the app and can be used to generate a voucher.

Redeeming a Travel Gift

To redeem your Travel Gift simply open the app and use it to generate a payment voucher. You can enter the voucher number when paying online, read the voucher number aloud when paying over the phone or have the voucher barcode scanned when paying in person.

If you have a smartphone, you can claim your Travel Gift by logging in to Island.is with your digital credentials or your IceKey. Once you’ve claimed your Travel Gift on Island.is, the voucher appears in the app where you can redeem it or transfer it to another individual.

Transferring the Travel Gift to Someone Else

You may transfer your Travel Gift to another individual. However, each individual may only redeem a maximum of 15 Travel Gifts. You can transfer your Travel Gift both through the app and on Island.is.

In the app touch the amount of the gift, which brings up your options to “Use Gift” or “Re-gift” (transfer). If you would like to send an image or video when transferring your Travel Gift, give the app access to the phone’s camera. You may also write a personal message when transferring a Travel Gift.

On Island.is, log in by clicking on “Collect Travel”, which brings up your options to use your Travel Gift or “Give gift” (transfer).
