Application for Residence Permit for Parents Age 67 and Older

Parents age 67 and older who have an adult child in Iceland may apply for a residence permit if the child is:

  • an Icelandic citizen

  • a citizen from another Nordic country*

  • a foreign national with permanent residence in Iceland

  • a foreign national whose temporary residence in Iceland is based on:

    • work as a qualified specialist

    • work as an athlete

    • marriage or cohabitation

    • grounds of international protection

    • grounds of humanitarian views

    • grounds of special ties to Iceland

*Note that a citizen from a EEA/EFTA state may sponsor their parents from outside the EEA/EFTA for a residence card instead of a residence permit
