Residence permits based on work are for individuals, 18 years or older, who have been offered work in Iceland.
Residence permits based on work are divided into four categories:
Residence permits based on work are granted to those that fulfill the basic requirements for a residence permit, and have been granted a work permit by the Directorate of Labor.
Work permits are granted to a specific employer. If the applicant finds a new job, the new employer must apply for a new work permit. The employee can not begin working until a work permit has been granted.
