Mía – the fabric that adds courage

4th April 2024

The book Mía gets a medical well was created when Þórunn Eva G. Pálsdóttir was doing her final assignment in nursing assistant in the spring of 2019.

Mia - the doll that increases security

The book is about a girl who needs a medical well, and since Þórunn felt that there was a great lack of education for children who receive medicine burners she created Mía.

Since then, the Mía project has grown and another book and doll with meaning has emerged. The Mía doll is meant to give long-term ill children more courage in life, as stated on the label that comes with the doll.

The Akureyri Hospital received about 20 Mía dolls and now has been put up Mía stickers on the ward.

“We are always grateful to participate in projects aimed at reducing the insecurity of children with regards to hospital visits. The Mía doll is great since additions can be added, such as a catheter, medicine well, a button or other items. Children who have such challenges can better align with the doll,” says Elma Rún Ingvarsdóttir, specialist in child nurcing at the children’s ward at SAk.
