Safer Northwest is a regional forum for dialogue on violence and other forms of crime. Three themes were addressed in the workshop: child and youth well-being in the Northwest, violence in close relationships and vulnerable individuals.

Helga Margrét Jóhannesdóttir, head nurse in the area of Blönduós, and Kristrún Snjólfsdóttir, head nurse in Sauðárkrókur, held a talk on procedures related to violence in close relationships, along with representatives from the child protection services, social services and the police. They also presented new work guidelines on reception after sexual abuse, which were implemented at HSN by the end of 2023.

Alice Harpa Björgvinsdóttir, head psychologist, introduced the psychosocial services of HSN. The talk also covered the services of mental health teams at HSN and the West Iceland Healthcare Institution (HVE).

At the end of the workshop, a declaration of cooperation was signed aimed at ensuring long-term and sustainable crime prevention cooperation between police authorities and partners.

The partners are: The Police Commissioner of Northwest Iceland, the District Commissioner of Northwest Iceland, the Association of Local Authorities in Northwest Iceland, the Húnavatn and Skagafjörður districts, the Healthcare Institution of North Iceland, the Healthcare Institution of West Iceland, the Politechnic school of Northwest Iceland, the Youth Association of Skagafjörður, the Youth Association of Eastern Húnvetningar, the Youth Association of Western Húnvetningar and the municipalities of Skagafjörður, Skagabyggð, Skagaströnd, Húnabyggð and Húnaþing vestra.

The declaration of cooperation is a great step forward in improving services for the people of the North West and HSN welcomes the inclusion of such a partnership.
