Extension of pension due to stay in an institution

The extension of pension payments is intended to cover housing costs when people stay in a nursing home or hospital and pension payments have stopped.

You can apply for an extension of your pension:

  • for a maximum of 3 months at a time,

  • for a maximum of 6 months in total.

An extension of 6 months can be applied for retrospectively.

Conditions

Applications must be submitted within 6 months of the payments being cancelled.

Deposits in banks and the amount of securities and shares may not exceed:

  • 4 million per person,

  • 8 million for married couples and cohabitants.

The spouse will not be paid home supplement for the same period covered by the extension.

Evaluation of the application

The application is assessed to see whether an extension is necessary for payments or other operational costs of the applicant's residential property.

Applications can only be made for residential housing where the applicant lives.

If the applicant and/or spouse pays the cost of staying in a nursing home, this cost is taken into account but no confirmation of the cost has to be submitted.
